February The World Student Christian Federation will be holding its 35th General assembly (GA) entitled:

We are many. We are one. Sent out to build Gods peace

 in Bogota, Colombia from February 27th to March 5th, 2015. And will include a Women’s and Men’s Pre-Assembly on the 15th and a Senior Friends gathering. The World Student Christian Federation General Assembly is a meeting of national SCM Delegates from all over world to outline the direction of WSCF for the next 4 - 6 years!

  • 140-180 participants including delegates from the member movements, staff, Executive Committee members, and guests.
  • 107 movements, both the affiliated and associated movements, is invited to send one delegate(practical difference between them is that only the affiliated movements have a vote)
  • 20-affiliated movements from the Middle East Region will participate in this General Assembly.
  • Each region sends 2 Executive Committee members and 1 regional secretary

     The general assembly organized by WSCF is to motivate and train young ecumenical leaders and to play a strong role in furthering God’s peace and justice in the church and world today.

    And to decide on the general direction of the federation as well as draw guidelines for its participation and initiatives around the world.  It is considered the highest authority/body within the federation, providing youth with the tool to actively participation in the life and decision making process.

 Assembly Objectives:

  • Reflect on mission of the WSCF in an ecumenical and social organisations partnership perspective.
  • Define future areas of work to be included in the 2014 – 2018 WSCF Strategic Plan
  • To elect the future leadership of the Federation
  • To strengthen the inter-generational relationships within the WSCF
  • To strengthen ecumenical dialogue
  • To give visibility to present and future challenges in Colombia regarding human (social, economic, political) and environmental rights.

 

Themes for this year: Consider which themes to continue to guide our work and how to nuance them for the coming years. These will include: 

  • economic and environmental justice
  • Overcoming violence and peace-building
  • Inter-religious partnership
  • Role of dialogue in celebrating
  • Negotiating diversity while working in and for unity.

 

    Traditionally, WSCF covers all the travel and lodging expenses of the movements’ representatives, however, in light of the change of funding strategies, the various regional movements are expected to raise part of the funds in the form of cost share.  In return, WSCF headquarter; will cover 30% of the travel expenses. 

 

    Furthermore, each participants is expected to pay 150$ participation fees, their visa expenses and annual movement membership fee which ranges from 150 to 250$ per year.  The remaining sum has to be raised through donations, activities and initiatives organized locally and regionally.
